Sustainability

All DEN4DEK partners belong to a stable existing network: the Regions for Digital Ecosystems Network (REDEN) that guarantees the permanence of DEN4DEK as a basic interest group of European regions specialised in Digital Ecosystems.

It is also the intention of DEN4DEK to explore different alternatives of sustainability of the Network. Three main options have already been identified by Project Partners. These are:

  • Sustainability through Digital Ecosystems deployments financed through local/regional/national funds.
  • Legal formalisation of DEN4DEK as an Interest Group supported by membership subscription. The objective of the interest group would be the support and evolution of regional implementation of DE environments.
  • Self-sustainability of the network through services such as Technical Assistance and personalised On-site training sessions.

Interreg IVC – Regions for economic change

As part of the alternatives for Continuation of the DEN4DEK activities, project Partners are exploring the possibilities of submitting a Project Proposal under the Regions for Economic Change Initiative of DG REGIO, INTERREG IVC Programme. Policy theme 2.6 ‘Better ICT Connections between regions’ was identified by as one of the 30 thematic priorities by the European Commission. The text of Main Aims of the Theme description says: ‘Proposals that focus primarily on measures enabling enterprise networking through the deployment of digital business ecosystems will be expected to work on the integration of local SMEs within the global market. Work shall lead to the development of project based on a variety of ICT-based service and business models adapted to local conditions’. The REDEN is also referenced on the theme description available here. The Communication from the Commission on the Regions for Economic Change is available here. The second call for proposals for INTERREG IVC will be launched on October 27th 2008 and will operate till January 30th 2009.
